Ahpra issues sexual harassment statement

01 July 2021

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and its national boards have published a joint statement "No place for sexism, sexual harassment or violence in healthcare".

While the majority of practitioners are focused on patient safety and practise professionally and respectfully, recent media reports including some incidents of sexual harassment involving registered health practitioners, have prompted Ahpra and its national boards to remind practitioners of their professional obligations and encourage speaking up about disrespectful behaviour and unprofessional conduct in healthcare.

No place for sexism, sexual harassment or violence in healthcare reinforces the important role registered practitioners have in building and maintaining a culture of respect in healthcare. Respect is a cornerstone of good, professional practice and it is fundamental to the Australian community’s trust in registered health practitioners.
