CPD review project update - May 2022
30 May 2022
The CPD review project group continues to determine an updated CPD framework, in order to meet revised regulatory requirements from the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) review project group met in May 2022, continuing work on phase 2 of the project plan - determine the updated CPD framework. The group were advised on the Determining the updated CPD framework report consultation and considered a single proposal for the updated CPD framework.
Determining the updated CPD framework report consultation
The Determining the updated CPD framework report aimed to evaluate the 2014 ANZCA and FPM CPD program and recommend an updated CPD framework to align with the MBA’s revised CPD registration standard (effective 1 January 2023) and the MCNZ’s recertification documents (effective 1 July 2022). We shared the report for consultation in late April and recieved 16 responses. Respondents represented a broad range of CPD participants, including ANZCA fellows, FPM fellows, Specialist International Medical Graduates, non-fellows and provisional fellowship trainees.
Proposal for updated CPD framework
Group members considered a proposal for the updated CPD framework, based on the report consultation feedback and regulatory requirements. Group members also reviewed draft updates to the CPD standard and CPD mandatory compliance policy.
As advised in the email shared with all CPD participants in May 2022, there are currently no changes to CPD requirements or submission dates. The updated CPD framework and CPD standard will be shared for formal approval by key college committees over the next two months. Following approval by ANZCA Council and FPM Board in late July 2022, we will share the updated CPD requirements on the project webpage and in college publications. We will also update the CPD handbook and online CPD portfolio in August – September 2022.
