Annual structured conversation (NZ CPD requirement)
01 March 2023
Fellows and other continuing professional development (CPD) participants with vocational registration in New Zealand are encouraged to plan their annual structured conversation, a mandatory CPD requirement from 2023.
Under the Medical Council of New Zealand Recertification requirements for vocationally-registered doctors in New Zealand, all doctors must complete a structured conversation at least annually with a peer, employer, or colleague.
The conversation must include time to reflect on:
- Your development needs.
- Your goals for learning and professional activities.
- Your intentions for the next year.
From 2023, the annual structured conversation is a mandatory requirement for all ANZCA and FPM fellows and other CPD participants with vocational registration in New Zealand. Please note this includes fellows and other CPD participants remaining on the triennial CPD program during the 2023 transition year.
We encourage you to have the conversation early, as it can inform your CPD activities for the remainder of the year. We’ve developed some resources to help you meet this requirement:
You may also find your employer has a template form you can use to record the conversation.
If you need any further information, our friendly CPD team is always happy to help.
