Reflections on the 2022 FPM Spring Meeting

14 November 2022

More than 160 delegates joined us in Noosa in October for the FPM Spring Meeting. Convenor Dr Joann Rotherham reflects on the experience.

Watch the event show reelThis year’s FPM Spring Meeting “Better Together” was a cracker of an event. After being very ‘un-together’ during the last three years, more than 160 delegates soaked up the Noosa sunshine and revelled in the joy of being together as friends and colleagues at last. Champagne glasses were raised along with spirits and voices.

We came together with our colleagues in other specialties; with fantastic new insights into innovative pain treatments from experts including Dr Susan Evans (gynaecologist), Dr Michael Huo (oncoradiologist) and Dr Jamie Nuttall (GP).

We came together with our allied health experts forging new paths, including Michael Deen (OT), Trudy Maunsell (CNC and APS president), Jay Whittem (physio) and psychologist, Ainslee Palmer.

We came together with the researchers and innovators on the cutting edge of social prescribing, virtual reality, neurostimulation and radiosurgery.

We came together with our “pain family”, as we heard from the various organisations in Australasia that strive to improve life for patients with pain, how they fit onto the pain family tree and how to work better together to get things done.

We came together with each other; learning from world experts like Professor Joel Katz about transitions of care for pain patients; caring for our own and one another’s welfare with wellness virtuosos like TED talker, Maurice Harvey-Hall; and richly discussing and debating with each other on topics such as the latest developments in research and treatment with cannabinoids.

We heard the bravery of a patient, we felt the excitement of innovation, we saw the value of passionate advocacy and we tasted the best seafood that Noosa offers.

And at the close we said cheerio to our friends and colleagues, refreshed and reenergised, ready to take our new knowledge and vitality with us to further benefit our patients in the knowledge that we are, of course, better together.

Until the next time we meet in South Australia in 2023.

Thank you
