Professor Kate Leslie new Australian Medical Council President

A former ANZCA President, Professor Kate Leslie, AO FAHMS has been elected President of the Australian Medical Council.

Professor Leslie, ANZCA President from 2010-2012, has been elected President and Chair of the board of directors of the Australian Medical Council at the council's annual general meeting.

Professor Leslie, an internationally renowned anaesthesia researcher is Head of Research in the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She was appointed to AMC Council in 2011 and was elected as a director in 2013.

She was a member (2011-20) and chair (2015-2000) of the AMC Specialist Education Accreditation Committee, and was Deputy President (2018-20).

"In the next two years our challenge will be to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and embed some of the fantastic innovations that have arisen from it," Professor Leslie said.

"The AMC shares these challenges with universities, colleges and health services." 

Professor Leslie acknowledged the part that the ANZCA Council played in her introduction to the AMC and appointment to its Council.
