Dr Deepak Sharma is the chief of Neuroanesthesia and Perioperative Neurosciences at the University of Washington, Seattle, United States of America. Dr Sharma is also UW's Virginia and Prentice Bloedel Endowed Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and a professor of Neurological Surgery. Dr Sharma is the President of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology & Critical Care (SNACC) and the Vice-Chair of the Neuroanesthesia Education Committee of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology and reviews for 16 reputed journals. He has published 95 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. He has delivered 96 invited lectures globally and has been an invited Visiting Professor to 15 reputed universities. 

Dr. Sharma’s special interest is in stroke and cerebrovascular disease. He is renowned internationally for his expertise in Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. He is the Education Director of the UW Transcranial Doppler Laboratory and his multidisciplinary team has invented a novel Transcranial Doppler simulator for training and education. He has conducted several TCD workshops across the world. Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where Dr. Sharma practices, is a reputed Comprehensive Stroke Center and Dr. Sharma serves on the institutional stroke program steering committee. He also served on the SNACC steering committee that produced the first consensus statement on anesthetic management of acute ischemic stroke and recently led the recent SNACC taskforce that published the multi-society consensus statement on anesthetic management of AIS during COVID19.
