Advanced Certificate in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.

19 December 2023

As of 1 January, the Diploma of Advanced Diving and Hyperbaric medicine will be known as the Advanced Certificate in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.

The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Authority (TEQSA) notified medical specialty colleges that the use of the term "Diploma" is protected and that it was no longer to be used after 31 December 2023. The college investigated several options including legislative change and possible accreditation with TEQSA, all of which have proven to not be viable.

As a result, ANZCA must change the names of several of the qualifications we deliver by 1 January 2024. The Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine program is one of these that requires change. The qualification will be known as the Advanced Certificate in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.

All those who have already been awarded the diploma may still utilise the diploma post nominal. Any trainee who completes training in the 2024 hospital employment year and trainees going forward will be awarded the advanced certificate (ANZCA AdvCertDHM).
