Candidate statement

I am applying to become a member of the FPM Board in order to advocate for patients in lower socioeconomic communities, particularly regarding provision of high-quality care in resource poor settings. Personal attributes and experience that would add to the skill mix and diversity of the board

Within the current board, I would be the only member who is a palliative care physician, and possibly the only member who holds fellowship with the College of Rural and Remote Medicine. Although I no longer live rurally for family reasons, I remain committed to advocating for health access and equity for rural and remote communities, including for culturally appropriate Aboriginal health. I currently work in a low socioeconomic area and am passionate about providing evidence-based high-value care in resource poor settings. My nonclinical roles include research, education (including as a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of Newcastle) and pastoral care of trainees, particularly of the trainee in difficulty.
