Dr Maxine Ronald is of Ngati Hine and Ngati Wai descent. She is a General Surgeon, and works in Whangarei Hospital, Northland DHB. Maxine obtained her fellowship in General Surgery in 2012 and completed post fellowship training in Perth, Western Australia in acute general surgery, colorectal surgery and oncoplastic breast surgery. She is current Chair of the Indigenous Health Committee of RACS, member of the Māori Health Advisory Group to RACS and is the first Indigenous fellow on RACS council. She is an immediate past member of the Perioperative Mortality Review Committee of the HQSC, Hei Ahuru Mowai (Māori Cancer Leadership Group), the Northern Regional and Northland Equity Governance Groups, and Te Ropu Whakakaupapa Urutaa. Dr.Ronald’s main area of clinical interest is breast cancer although she has a wide scope of practice within general surgery. She is passionate about eliminating health inequities for Māori and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and advocating for the rights of all Indigenous groups.
