Newman Harris is a clinical senior lecturer at the Pain Management and Research Institute of the University of Sydney, at the Royal North Shore Hospital. In addition to experience in rehabilitation medicine and procedural pain medicine, he completed psychiatry training during a fellowship at the Pain Management and Research Institute, and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in pain medicine at the University of Sydney. He was admitted as a foundation fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) in 1999.

Newman has contributed to the development of several pain education programs including the postgraduate pain program at the University of Sydney. He has been an examiner for both the faculty and the Royal Australian and the New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP); he has served as a councillor at the Australian Pain Society, a NSW branch councillor of the RANZCP, and as a panel member of the medical tribunal of NSW. As an undergraduate at the University of NSW he served on the executive committees of the faculty of medicine and the university council.
