The meeting will include the following workshops:

• Obstetric Haemorrhage workshop: massive Haemorrhage resulting in cardiovascular instability or coagulopathy can develop in any area of routine anaesthetic practice. This workshop will fulfil the criteria for the ‘Major Haemorrhage’ emergency scenario by using simulation of Obstetric Haemorrhage scenarios to put the theory into practice.

• Anaphylaxis workshop: anaphylaxis is a rare emergency, however it is recognised that optimising management of the crisis reduces morbidity. The workshop will take delegates through the AZAAG management guidelines (pre-reading required) utilising small group discussions to review the clinical presentation of anaphylaxis, the crisis management of various cases and the follow-up up of patients following a reaction.

• Can’t Intubate Can’t Oxygenate workshop: CICO is an Anaesthesia crisis that many people will only experience a few times in their career at most. This workshop will fulfil the criteria for the CICO Emergency Scenario of the ANZCA and RGA Emergency Skills CPD requirements covering how to avoid (where possible) and manage this life-threatening scenario.

• Quality Assurance Discussion: structured small group discussion on difficult scenarios from participants at the meeting.

What we're doing to reduce our carbon footprint at the meeting

• Water stations made available at the venue, making it easier for delegates to use these while onsite to fill reusable water bottles.
• We have eliminated printed collateral and single use plastic. We no longer provide satchels, print programs or function tickets for the special interest groups meetings.
• Promoting the useability of the meeting onsite mobile app.
• In most cases we use digital signage and where possible single use signage has been eliminated. If printed signage is required, we ensure it is printed on recycled material and can be recycled.
• The meeting lanyards are made of bamboo which is a renewable resource and eco-friendly product that will break down over time. We’ll have dedicated recycling stations at the venue.

What you can do 

• Make sure you recycle your lanyard! Look out for the recycling stations.
• Pack, take and use your own keep cup and water bottle to the meeting. Filtered water stations and washing stations will be available at the venue.
• Where possible, reuse hotel linen, as this will help save water.
• Choose to offset the carbon emissions of your flights. Most airlines offer this for a small fee.

Respectful behaviour is expected at all times from all participants. Appropriate behaviour respects difference and diversity, respects privacy, and handles disagreement politely. Honesty and fair dealing is expected.

Obtaining consent to quote others, use presentations or take photographs is appropriate and shows the respect expected of participants of the Rural SIG meeting.

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible to an events person or the meeting convenor.
