It's a wrap on the 2024 ASM

Enjoy some highlights from the ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting in Brisbane.
Over five fabulous days we hosted 2165 in-person delegates who enjoyed five plenary sessions, 52 concurrent sessions, and attended 134 workshops.
There were nearly 60 exhibitors in the healthcare industry exhibition as well as 18 social events and optional activities including latte art, lunches, cocktail receptions, breakfasts and of course, the Gala Dinner – The Golden Age at Brisbane City Hall.

Thank you to our speakers
Our scientific program featured 143 expert speakers and 447 facilitators from all around the world, including six keynote speakers. In lieu of gifts, the 2024 regional organising committee chose to support two charities: Orange Sky and Story Dogs. We donated $A5000 to each organisation.
Welcome to our new fellows
On Saturday 4 May we held our 2024 College Ceremony – the biggest on record, with 300 new ANZCA and FPM fellows presenting. Congratulations to all new fellows who presented. We look forward to seeing your anaesthesia and pain medicine careers blossom.
The ceremony oration was given by Lucas Patchett, co-founder and CEO of Orange Sky.
At the College Ceremony we recognised 14 fellows for their outstanding achievements with an ANZCA Council Award. These awards include the prestigious Robert Orton Medal, the ANZCA Medal, the ANZCA Council Citation and the ANZCA Recognition. You can read more about the award winners here.
President and dean handover
We welcomed Professor David Story as our new ANZCA president and thanked Dr Chris Cokis for his past two years in the role. Dr Kieran Davis also handed over the FPM deanship to Dr Dilip Kapur.

Dr Joanne Vo for "A retrospective audit of salmon calcitonin for acute postoperative phantom limb pain".
ASM in the media
The ANZCA Communications team issued seven media releases on a diverse range of topics including sleep and chronic pain, patient anxiety, tonsillectomies, and medical research and gender. So far more than 500 articles have been syndicated and a 10-minute radio interview has been broadcast, and more than two million people have read or listened to articles and broadcasts. Nearly 250 people “joined the conversation” on Twitter/X via the hashtag #ASM24Bris which, as of Tuesday 7 May, had been used in more than 1600 tweets totalling more than 10.3 million impressions. The College Ceremony livestream has had more than 20,000 plays on Facebook. In the week of the ASM, our YouTube channel clocked up more than 2300 views and our Instagram had nearly 40,000 impressions.

Launch of the new CPD portfolio app
Our new ANZCA and FPM CPD portfolio app was officially launched by Immediate Past President Dr Chris Cokis at the ASM. You can now record your CPD activity on the go. Watch the launch video here.
We also launched our updated professionalism document “Supporting Professionalism and Performance: A guide for anaesthetists and pain medicine physicians”.
FPM Symposium
The 2024 FPM Symposium had more than 200 delegates attend (with 46 registered for OnDemand content) and 80 in attendance at the FPM reception held at GOMA. The meeting included 12 speakers, four sessions, four chairs, and one facilitator for the ASBD workshop.
Emerging Leaders Conference
The Emerging Leaders Conference held at Mount Tambourine had 50 delegates, mentors and speakers.
