Statement

Professor Leonie Watterson is a clinical professor with the University of Sydney and director of the Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre.

She is a senior staff specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital, Co-director of Anaesthesia at the Royal Hospital for Women and a visiting medical officer at Prince of Wales in Sydney where her clinical practice focuses on obstetric and ear, nose and throat anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and acute pain medicine.
 
Leonie has long-standing interests in simulation, health professional education and research and health services management. As an early developer of simulation, she co-developed the EMAC course and maintains ongoing research interests in simulation, human factors, airway management and health professional communication. She has a masters degree in clinical education,  and a post-graduate diploma in organisational leadership and coaching. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Director’s course. 
 
Leonie’s contribution to the ANZCA community began in 1999 when she joined the NSWACE committee. She was elected to the ANZCA Council in 2019 and is chair of the Education Executive Management Committee. Prior to this, she was chair of the Professional Affairs Executive Committee and the inaugural chair and Gender Equity Sub-Committee.
