2022 WA ACE Country Conference

St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospital is convening this year’s conference, located at the Pullman Resort in Bunker Bay, which is nestled in a beautiful corner of WA’s south west.

What can you expect?

You can look forward to a blend of thought-provoking presentations and opportunities for face to face connection, in a beautiful setting.

Our opening speakers will distil the recent literature, highlighting emerging trends and important ideas. We’ll hear from Professor Mike Paech, currently editor-in-chief of the International Journal for Obstetric Anaesthesia, Dr Leena Nagappan, chair of the WA Perioperative Medicine Group, and perioperative medicine lead at Fiona Stanley Hospital, and Dr Neil Hauser, paediatric anaesthetist and convener of this year’s ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting.

Digital health and anaesthesia

Anaesthesia has been slow to harness the power of the digital age, but the inevitable change is gaining momentum. Worldwide, paper charts are being exchanged for electronic anaesthesia records (EARs), artificial intelligence is augmenting clinical trials, and big data is being harnessed to guide our practice. In our “Digital health and anaesthesia” session, we have three distinguished speakers who will provide clinician, research and quality improvement perspectives on how technology will underpin the next phase of improvements in anaesthesia care.

Sunday morning session

On Sunday morning we’ll explore top pain management tips for the practicing anaesthetist, important perioperative considerations in the elderly and frail, and a year after its introduction, voluntary assisted dying in WA. We’ll close with a plenary session, in which our panellists will wrestle with challenging perioperative dilemmas.

An experienced faculty of Midland consultants will present three emergency response workshops: ALS, CICO and massive haemorrhage. As usual, spaces are limited, so please book early to avoid missing out.

We look forward to seeing you there!
Dr Sean Dwyer and Dr Duncan Bunning
