Beyond City Limits

Beyond City Limits is a series of feature stories showcasing opportunities for rural anaesthesia training and careers. Each article explores a different example of non-metropolitan anaesthesia and pain medicine practice across Australia in health settings that are supported by the commonwealth government specialist training program (STP).

The Beyond City Limits stories showcase the diverse locations in which our trainees and fellows live and work and the personal and professional benefits of a regional lifestyle.

The articles have been published in recent issues of the ANZCA Bulletin and were produced with the assistance of the college policy and communications team, rural training hubs, hospitals, trainees and fellows.

Beyond City Limits: Rockhampton and Mackay

The anaesthesia departments at Mackay Base Hospital and Rockhampton Hospital are keen to showcase the benefits of living and working outside metropolitan centres. Attracting consultants can be challenging but both central Queensland hospitals hope they can convince others of the benefits of settling there.

Beyond City Limits: Tasmania

Beaches, mountains, food, wine and art are what draw people to Tasmania. But it's the sense of home, belonging and being part of a community that make people stay. With its crisp clean air, stunning scenery and bustling food scene, it's no wonder this island state is a drawcard for many fellows, trainees and specialist international medical graduates.

Beyond City Limits: Darwin

The Top End of Australia offers a unique experience for not only a broad scope of clinical practice opportunities but also the opportunity to be at the heart of stunning landscapes with tens of thousands of years of First Nations history and culture.
