ANZCA is one of the largest specialist medical colleges in Australia and New Zealand, and the region's foremost authority on anaesthesia, pain and perioperative medicine.

We support research in anaesthesia, pain medicine and perioperative medicine to improve patient outcomes through funding and resources, collaboration, and networks. 

We're committed to improving education and training capacity in anaesthesia and pain medicine in response to the needs expressed by low and middle income countries (LMIC).

We're developing a formal perioperative medicine diploma as part of a major ANZCA-led multi-disciplinary collaboration that aims to establish an effective, integrated and collaborative perioperative care model.

We're responsible for setting the standards of clinical practice for anaesthesia and pain medicine in Australia and New Zealand. Our activities include issuing safety alerts; developing professional documents; and overseeing incident reporting.

This Australian government initiative aims to extend vocational training for specialist registrars into settings outside traditional metropolitan teaching hospitals, including regional, rural and remote, and private facilities.
