The college was founded in February 1992 after operating as a Faculty of Anaesthetists within the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

The ANZCA Research Committee assesses research applications for projects related to anaesthesia, resuscitation, perioperative medicine, intensive care or pain medicine carried out in Australia or New Zealand.

FPM trainees maintain an eportfolio of assessments and training records that track their progression through the FPM training program.

Awarded in recognition of significant contributions at a regional level to anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and/or pain medicine.

The Perioperative Medicine SIG has three aims: Improving patient safety and outcomes; collaborating and sharing knowledge with other specialist groups; and developing perioperative medicine with various craft groups.

Our archives document the history and administration of the college, and its predecessor, as well as records of the Faculty of Pain Medicine. The archives are a rich source of primary material about the history of the organisation, and many individuals within it.

Anaesthetists are specialist doctors with unique clinical knowledge and skills. They have a major role in the perioperative care of surgical patients.
