A/Prof Steffens is the Director of the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. A/Prof Steffens manages and supervise a large research team working in over 200 research projects across several surgical specialties. A/Prof Steffens is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, where he contributes to teaching postgraduate students and supervises a number of MPhil and PhD students. A/Prof Steffens research interests focus on enhancing surgical and patient reported outcomes following major cancer surgery and the effectiveness of patient optimisation before surgery. A/Prof Steffens is the lead investigator of the PRIORITY Trial, an NHMRC funded multi-centre trial investigating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a preoperative exercise an education program on the reduction of postoperative complication in patients undergoing advanced gastrointestinal cancer surgery.
