Regional and national committee elections

Everything you need to know about voting and standing for election in the ANZCA and FPM regional and national committee elections.

The ANZCA and FPM Australian regional committees and New Zealand national committee support the ANZCA Council and FPM Board, and oversee training, supervision and continuing medical education in their respective jurisdictions. 

ANZCA regional and national committees

Elections for the ANZCA Australian regional committees and the ANZCA New Zealand National Committee (ANZCA NZNC) take place every two years. All ANZCA and FPM financial fellows are eligible to vote and stand for election in their registered jurisdiction.

The next ANZCA regional and national committee elections are scheduled for March/April 2024. We will invite eligible fellows to submit nominations in February 2024. We will hold an electronic election for each of the regions where the number of nominations received exceeds the number of vacancies. 

FPM regional and national committees

Elections for the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian regional committees and the New Zealand National Committee (FPM NZNC) take place every two years. All FPM financial fellows are eligible to vote and stand for election in their registered jurisdiction.

The next FPM Australian regional committee elections are scheduled for March/April 2024. We will invite eligible fellows to submit nominations in February 2024. We will hold an electronic election for each of the regions where the number of nominations received exceeds the number of vacancies. 

The next FPM NZNC will be held in 2023.

What you need to know

Am I eligible to vote and/or stand for election?

All financial fellows of ANZCA and FPM who meet the conditions outlined in college regulations are eligible to stand for election, endorse a candidate's nomination, and vote in their registered jurisdiction.
 
For electoral purposes, honorary fellows are not considered to be members and are therefore ineligible to participate in any aspect of the election process.

How do I make a nomination?

We will announce the call for nominations in appropriate communications channels, and advise members of the specific criteria that need to be met in order to nominate.

We encourage members to check that their contact information is up-to-date in the MyAnzca Portal. We strongly recommend that you provide your personal email account, as we are aware that many hospital firewalls are set up to protect individuals or complex networks. Firewalls filter incoming and outgoing email-server traffic based on a set of rules determined by the firewall administrator.

When are elections held?

An election will be called if the number of nominated candidates exceeds any available positions, as per section 9 of the ANZCA Constitution and relevant regulations, Regulation 3 and By-law 15.
 
The exact timing is determined by the ANZCA Annual General Meeting (AGM). It will vary slightly from year to year, but voting will generally take place over two weeks in late March or early April.

How do I vote?

If an election is called, details and advance notice will be given to all voting fellows. Fellows will be invited to vote for their preferred candidates during a specific period (usually 14 days) in late March or early April.

How does electronic voting work?

We use a secure third party electronic voting service called Election Runner to manage the ANZCA and FPM regional and national committee elections.
 
During the polling period (usually 14 days), you will be able to access candidate bios and statements and cast your vote. It's easy to use, and you can vote from any location on any device.

When are the results announced?

Once the ballot has closed and results are known, all candidates will be contacted immediately by the regional coordinator to advise them of the result. The official announcement and appointments will be made during the ANZCA New Council and FPM New Board meetings in May.

Campaigning during elections

Candidates participating in council, board and committee elections must act honestly and with integrity when campaigning.
