Dr Murray Taverner is a specialist anaesthetist and pain medicine physician based in Victoria. He is a visiting pain medicine specialist at Frankston Hospital and the founder and Medical Director of Frankston Pain Management, a multidisciplinary private pain clinic. Dr Taverner has practised in anaesthesia and pain medicine since 1991 and has worked full time in pain medicine since 1998.
He is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Perioperative Medicine at Monash University and a foundation member of the Neuromodulation Society of Australia and New Zealand, where he has previously served on the Board as Treasurer and Secretary. Dr Taverner is also a long-standing member of the Spine Intervention Society and a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice with the World Institute of Pain.
Dr Taverner currently serves as a member of the FPM Procedures in Pain Medicine Committee.
Dr Taverner is a strong advocate for comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and evidence-based pain management across both public and private settings. His clinical expertise spans musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain, post-surgical pain, complex regional pain syndrome, pelvic pain, facial pain, and cancer-related pain. He has a particular interest in reducing ineffective medications and integrating interventional pain procedures within holistic care pathways to maximise patient function and reduce suffering.
