We are excited to invite you to the 2025 Rural SIG meeting, held in association with the Mackay Anaesthetic Community (MAC) meeting. The theme of the meeting is "Riding the tides" and will take place at the Coral Sea Marina Resort in Airlie Beach, Queensland, from 11-13 July 2025.
We look forward to gathering with professionals in the field to share knowledge and advance discussions in the rural anaesthesia space. It promises to be an engaging and productive time in a beautiful location.
The program will feature exciting plenary sessions from our distinguished invited speakers, Professor Laurence Weinberg, Director of Anaesthesia at Austin Health, and Professor Philip Peyton, Head of Anaesthesia Research at Austin Health and former Chair of the ANZCA Clinical Trials Network. Additionally, hands-on CICO (Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate) and ultrasound for regional nerve blocks workshops will be available for participants.
For the social program, you’ll have the opportunity to book a ticket for the sunset cruise on Saturday afternoon and/or the meeting dinner under the stars at the Coral Sea Marina Resort. The full program will be confirmed soon, and registration will open shortly. In the meantime, we strongly recommend confirming your accommodation at the resort, as rooms are expected to sell out quickly.

Sustainability
As part of the the colleges commitment to environmental sustainability we have eliminated printed collateral and single use plastic. We no longer provide satchels, print programs or function tickets for the special interest groups meetings.
Where possible, single use signage has been eliminated through the use of digital signage. If printed signage is required, we ensure it is printed on material that is - or can be - recycled.
Since 2016, items we have eliminated from events include satchels, bottled water, and paper based tickets. Your support of these environmental changes has helped drive the success and strengthened the positive impact on our meeting footprint. We know working together, we will continue to do better.
Where possible we have eliminated plastic name badges and when these are required we source materials that have been treated with EcoPure®, an organic additive designed to enhance the speed of plastic decomposition in landfills. Delegates are encouraged to bring their own Keep Cups and use the water stations for re-filling water bottles.
The college upholds a commitment to host events at venues that have a publicly available sustainability statement. We’ve worked with venues who have their organic waste converted to fertiliser and green electricity and have unused food given to people in need and diverting food waste from landfill.
We continue to strive towards fostering a more sustainable future for our members and the community.
