ANZCA's New Zealand National Committee and the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists welcome you to the 2025 Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2025 Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia ASM, in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, New Zealand.

This meeting is brought to you by ANZCA’s New Zealand National Committee and the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists. Our local organising committee is looking forward to delivering a high-quality meeting that aims to inspire and connect.

The scientific program will run from Wednesday 12 to Saturday 15 November, 2025. It will captivate you with stimulating sessions from renowned international speakers, as well as from talent closer to home – with topical lectures and a wide range of workshops.

Keynote speakers

Dr Michael Kristensen, a consultant anaesthesiologist at Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark. Michael is a world expert in airway management, and holds numerous positions on international airway advisory committees. His particular interests include upper airway ultrasonography, front of neck access, and difficult airway predictors. He is widely published and offers free resources on airway management. Michael is co-editor of the Society for Airway Management textbook, Core Topics in Airway Management.

Professor Fred Mihm, a Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University. Fred has more than four decades of anaesthesia and critical care experience, with a special interest in high-risk anaesthesia, a series of more than 300 patients with pheochromocytoma, as well as numerous overseas volunteer missions. Aside from his routine academic duties, he has assisted in providing anaesthesia on numerous occasions to rare and exotic animal species at San Francisco and San Diego zoos.

Other highlights include unique workshops to satisfy ANZCA CME requirements, plus a gala dinner at the Hobbiton movie set, from the iconic Lord of the Rings films. 

Social activities

We have an exciting social program planned, to allow you to mingle and connect. There will be activities in Hamilton and surrounding areas. You can also take the opportunity to explore our region on your own, with many wonderful activities available on our doorstep, including Raglan, Te Awa cycleways and Waitomo caves, all within easy reach.
