The anaesthetic workload at this large tertiary teaching centre is busy, dynamic, clinically challenging, diverse and interesting. We provide approximately 32,000 anaesthetic episodes per year for all surgical services (except cardio-thoracic and neurosurgery). In addition to general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology and gynaecology; we are home to the National Burns Centre, and receive tertiary regional referrals for acute spinal injuries, mangled limb, plastic surgery, hands, and maxillofacial surgery. Up to 10% of our patients are low complexity paediatrics. Our tertiary obstetric centre delivers over 7000 babies annually.

Looking for Anaesthetists interested in joining the Department of Anaesthesia at Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau (formerly Northland District Health Board). Our positions are permanent, full-time and will involve a regular commitment to both Kaitaia and Whangārei Hospitals.
 
Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau provides public health services across the Northland region, from north of Wellsford to Cape Reinga serving a growing population of 190,000. Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three rural hospitals in Kaitaia, Kawakawa in the Bay of Islands and Dargaville. Of these, only Whangārei and Kaitaia Hospitals have operating theatres, with Whangārei being the only provider of surgery out-of-hours.
 
Whangārei Hospital has 8 operating theatres and a procedure room co-located in the operating theatre suite, as well as a 2-room endoscopy suite. It provides the majority of the surgical services for Northland, including a wide range of surgical sub-specialties and all emergency surgery for the region. The case-mix is varied and challenging, with a high volume of complex planned surgery as well as a busy trauma service.

Looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Fellow to join our pain medicine teams. This is a 12-month position for February 2024 – February 2025 accredited by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of ANZCA. Preference will be given to current trainees of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, or those intending to embark on training.
 The successful applicant will join our outpatient chronic, inpatient acute and complex, multidisciplinary pain teams. They will work across Middlemore Hospital, the Manukau Super Clinic, and other outlying pain clinics. Middlemore Hospital is a busy acute tertiary hospital that, amongst multiple specialities is home to the National Burns Service, a regional spinal cord injury service, and Kidz First Children’s Hospital.
