The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment. Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
Currently the role involves primarily ward-based work with an emphasis on the multidisciplinary approach and open communication with clients and their families. In the future, the aim is to grow the role to include a more robust inreach programme to the acute wards, and development of an outpatient service. There is also currently an opportunity to attend a monthly brain injury clinic and to be involved in the transitional living unit.
The registrar will report to and work closely with the specialists in the unit who are in the unit 5 days per week. The role will be supported by an intern. The registrar will assist in the supervision of the intern and Assistant in Medicine.
The registrar will have the opportunity to attend teaching at the hospital including registrar training; journal club; grand rounds; ALS2 and morbidity and mortality meetings. The registrar will be expected to present at these meetings on occasion. In addition, specific rehabilitation teaching will be provided by the supervisors in the unit. The registrar will also be given time to attend training provided through the college via distant learning.
