ANZCA and FPM 2026 Fellow volunteer survey

10 min read

In the coming month we’re sending all ANZCA and FPM fellows a bespoke survey about the impacts, barriers and enablers to volunteering with the college.

The college relies on the expertise, goodwill and commitment of fellows who contribute their time across education, examinations, governance, advocacy, wellbeing and professional activities.

This “ANZCA and FPM 2026 fellow volunteer survey” has been developed to better understand how fellows contribute, identify barriers to participation, and inform future approaches to volunteer engagement, recognition and role design.

This is your chance to have your say about your volunteered contributions to the college across a wide range of activities. We want to hear from all fellows, whether you currently volunteer, have volunteered in the past, or have never volunteered.

The survey will be distributed in late July 2026 and will remain open for four weeks. All ANZCA and FPM fellows will receive a personalised email containing your unique survey link, so please ensure your contact details are up to date.

The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete, with opportunities to provide detailed feedback using a free-text option.

As in previous years, an independent agency will manage the survey. KPMG will facilitate the distribution of the online survey, send reminders and provide a detailed analysis back to the college. Importantly, all collected information will remain confidential, with only high-level themes and de-identified data reported back to the college.

Have your say!
We encourage every fellow to complete the survey. Your experiences and perspectives will help shape the future of volunteering across ANZCA and FPM.

FAQs

What should I expect?

In July, each fellow will receive an email containing a unique survey link. You can complete the survey in one or multiple sessions on a laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Please check your email folders/junk mail and be aware that in some instances hospital firewalls may block an external email from KPMG. If you have not received your survey by mid-August, please check your junk folder before contacting KPMG.

An easy way to check your contact details is via the MyANZCA Portal. If you do not receive an email with your unique survey link by mid-August, or if you have any trouble accessing the survey, please contact the KPMG technical team

What does “volunteered contributions” mean exactly?

For the purpose of this survey, volunteered contributions are unpaid contributions of your time and expertise to support college activities.

Examples include involvement in committees, document development groups, examination activities, education, accreditation, governance and wellbeing initiatives.

Can I complete the survey if I don’t currently contribute as a volunteer?

Yes, we want to hear from all fellows. The survey has been specifically designed to capture responses from those who currently volunteer, those who have volunteered in the past, and those who don’t volunteer so we can better understand the barriers you face.

What happens after I’ve had my say?

Once the survey has closed in late-August, KPMG will perform statistical analysis on the aggregate data. Free-text comments from fellows will be analysed to identify the major themes and capture additional detail. We expect that results will be published in college publications in late 2026.

KPMG uses secure, encrypted systems to manage fellows’ details, with this information only used to distribute the survey links. At the conclusion of the survey, the lists will be permanently removed from KPMG systems, and all personally identifiable information will be removed from the survey database. Survey data is deidentified and stored on onshore servers hosted by Rackspace in Sydney, Australia.

As a company partner of the Research Society, Australia’s peak body for market research professionals, KPMG is bound by the Code of Professional Behaviour which is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act).

KPMG security program is certified to the ISO 27001: 2013 standard and is also accredited with ISO20252 Market, Opinion & Social Research, providing confidence that data collection methodologies, research management, and data handling adhere to high standards of participant privacy and data security.

Why are only fellows included in the survey?

At this initial stage, this survey is focused on fellows to build a clear, quantitative understanding of the nature and breadth of voluntary roles across the career continuum. While we recognise that valuable contributions to the college extend well beyond fellows, this approach provides a practical and robust starting point for analysis.

The college is committed to expanding consultation to include trainees and specialist international medical graduates (SIMGs), international medical graduates (New Zealand) and other member cohorts through tailored engagement surveys, designed to better capture unique experiences and contributions and informed by learnings from this initial phase.

Why is the college undertaking this survey now?

The college is committed to strengthening volunteer engagement and ensuring opportunities remain meaningful, sustainable and accessible. Understanding the experiences of current volunteers, former volunteers and those who have never volunteered will help inform future planning and improvements.
