ANZCA presence at ECCO

Four trainees represented ANZCA at the Early Learning in Medicine Clinical Conference Otago (ECCO), promoting a career in anaesthesia to medical students.
ANZCA’s New Zealand office has once again had a strong presence at the Early Learning in Medicine Clinical Conference Otago (ECCO), held in Dunedin from 12-13 April. For the fourth year in a row, ANZCA sponsored the conference and sent trainees to attend and represent the college.
Pippa Liley (NZ Office) joined four South Island trainees in Dunedin: Toni Steed, Rachael Stewart, Erin McKergow and Louis O’Faherty.
The conference was attended by more than 200 second- and third-year medical students from the University of Otago, who enjoyed two days of workshops, presentations and hands-on activities.
At the ANZCA sponsorship booth, students were able to try bag masking, placing an LMA and even intubating two mannequins, which were kindly provided by the Dunedin Hospital Sim Centre. The ANZCA trainees provided demonstrations, answered questions from students and advocated for anaesthesia as a specialty, receiving positive feedback from attendees.
Thank you to Toni, Rachael, Erin and Louis for their work at ECCO connecting with potential future trainees.
