ANZCA signs POM declaration
The London Declaration highlights the value and impact of good perioperative care through collaboration across borders
ANZCA was one of eight organisations to sign the London Declaration, an international collaboration with a shared vision for the future of perioperative medicine (POM), at the Euroanaesthesia Conference in Rotterdam on 6 June 2026.
Initially developed at the 2025 Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) World Congress, the London Declaration aims to highlight the value and impact of good perioperative care. It sets out a shared vision for how this can be achieved through collaboration across borders, empowering patients, investing in a skilled multi-professional workforce and building partnerships and pathways that improve outcomes for patients.
London Declaration
“High-quality perioperative care transforms lives.
Good perioperative care improves patient recovery, reduces the personal and societal burden of avoidable postoperative harm and delivers healthcare efficiency and productivity. Meeting this global challenge demands international collaboration - supporting and empowering patients, investing in a skilled multiprofessional healthcare workforce, and strengthening partnerships to drive better outcomes for all”
The founding partners of the declaration are:
- Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA)
- Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC)
- Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA)
- European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC)
- American Society of Anesthesiologists - Center for Perioperative Medicine (ASA-CPMed)
