Dual Training Recognition Process launch
ANZCA and the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) are pleased to announce the launch of the Dual Training Recognition Process (DTRP), a significant milestone in the colleges’ ongoing collaboration to improve health equity and access to specialist care across Australia and New Zealand.
The DTRP streamlines training for trainees undertaking both anaesthesia and intensive care medicine training by providing a more efficient and transparent recognition of prior learning (RPL) process. Importantly, the DTRP recognises overlap between the two existing specialty training programs while maintaining the integrity, standards and autonomy of each college.
Key objectives have now been achieved, including a commitment from both colleges to only require either ANZCA Primary/CICM First-part examination for dual training, alongside the development of a Dual Training Recognition Process Guidance Document to assist trainees in understanding potential overlaps and planning their training journey more effectively.

Registration for the DTRP is now open. If you're undertaking both ANZCA and CICM training, please complete this registration form to apply to have your status recognised as a dual trainee.
Following registration, the ANZCA Training team will review your information and contact you with next steps within two to four weeks.
Trainees and supervisors will be supported throughout the process by ANZCA's Director of Professional Affairs (DPA) and the ANZCA and CICM Training teams, who will provide guidance on training planning, recognition of prior learning, and progression through both training programs.
