New scholar role activity options coming in 2026

New scholar role activity options launching in 2026 will give trainees more flexibility and strengthen FPM’s research focus.
From early 2026, the Faculty of Pain Medicine will expand the scholar role activity options to provide trainees with greater flexibility and choice, while strengthening the faculty’s research identity.
The updated options will allow trainees to tailor their scholar role activity to their interests and career goals. While final details are being confirmed, it is anticipated that trainees will be able to complete one of the following:
Undertake a clinical audit or quality assurance project in pain medicine or a related area.
Write a 2000–2500 word literature review on a topic relevant to pain medicine.
Prepare a literature review for an electronic Persistent Pain Outcomes Collaboration (ePPOC) research project.
Present at a national or international scientific conference on a pain medicine-related subject.
Complete the ANZCA Educators Program and deliver a series of tutorials or workshops relevant to pain medicine.
Contribute to a clinical trial or research project in pain medicine or pain education.
Publish an article in a peer-reviewed journal related to pain medicine or pain education.
Complete a university-level subject in a relevant area of research or education.
Full details will be available in the 2026 edition of the FPM Training Handbook.
