Professor Gudrun Kunst visits ANZCA CTN to broaden international collaboration
The ANZCA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) is delighted to welcome Professor Gudrun Kunst to Melbourne, where she will spend the remainder of 2025 as a visiting professor. Her visit marks an important step in strengthening international collaboration and fostering shared learning between Australian, UK and European perioperative research communities.
Professor Kunst, MD, PhD (habil.), EDAIC, FRCA, FFICM, is a consultant anaesthesiologist at King’s College Hospital and Honorary Professor of Cardiovascular Anaesthesia at King’s College London. Trained in Heidelberg and at the Royal Brompton Hospital, she is recognised for her expertise in cardiovascular anaesthesia and perioperative care for high-risk patients, with research focused on perioperative organ protection. She has received major awards from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and has served as Grant Officer of the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia since 2022. She also holds key international leadership roles, including President of the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care and Board Member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care.
Her visit follows her recent role as an invited International Academy of Cardiac Anaesthesiologists speaker at the Tri-Society Cardiac and Thoracic Symposium (3SCTS) held in Sydney from 19–22 November 2025. While in Melbourne, Professor Kunst looks forward to reconnecting with collaborators, meeting new colleagues, and exploring opportunities for joint research with CTN investigators. Her visit will focus on gaining a broader understanding of the Australian clinical trials landscape, learning from the CTN’s operational model, and identifying shared priorities for future multicentre trials.
Researchers interested in meeting with Professor Kunst during her stay are encouraged to contact the CTN office.
