From Sydney's Mardi Gras to Melbourne's Midsumma March, find out how ANZCA is supporting this year's annual Pride in Medicine activities and how you can get involved.
ANZCA support for Pride in Medicine
Over the past few years ANZCA, along with other Australian and New Zealand medical colleges, has been a proud supporter of Pride in Medicine (PiM), a not for profit organisation of rainbow doctors, medical students and allies. And this year will be no exception. In addition to making a donation to PiM, the college encourages all ANZCA and FPM fellows, trainees and SIMGs to celebrate our diversity by getting involved their in local LGBTQI+ activities.
With both Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Melbourne's Midsumma Pride March taking place in February, here are three ways you can stand proud and show your support.
Join the Sydney Pride in Medicine breakfast: Saturday 28 February
ANZCA and FPM fellows, trainees and SIMGs are warmly invited to a breakfast at the RACS office in Sydney at 10am on Saturday 28 February (the morning of the Mardi Gras parade). Hosted by Pride in Medicine and GLADD, this will be an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the medical colleges’ collective achievements in advancing diversity. Participate in the Sydney Mardi Gras parade: Saturday 28 February
Ever wanted to march in the Mardi Gras parade, but never had the chance? If you're based — or planning to be — in Sydney for the celebrations next month, there's an exciting opportunity to march under the Pride in Medicine/GLADD banner.
Unfortunately, this year there's only one spot available for each college due to limited numbers allocated by the Mardi Gras organisers. So it's first come, best dressed! For your chance to be this year's ANZCA/FPM representative, please email [email protected] asap and we'll be in touch early next week. Please note that the successful participant will need to be available all day on 28 February.
Melbourne's Midsumma March: Saturday 1 February
For any Melbourne-based fellows, trainees and SIMGs, Pride in Medicine is also marching at the Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda on 1 February. This is a more casual event than Mardi Gras, so there is no limit to numbers, and all are welcome. Further details can be found in the PiM registration form.
