Thanks to all our NAD25 champions

This year's National Anaesthesia Day was a resounding success, with more than 70 hospitals from Armadale to Auckland getting actively involved. Check out the photos and get inspired for next year!
Photos
From foyer displays and equipment demos to morning teas and media interviews, hundreds of fellows and trainees from around Australia and New Zealand celebrated 179 years of modern anaesthesia last Thursday. Click on the image below to see how our fellows and trainees celebrated last Thursday.
Media coverage
We issued two media releases, “National Anaesthesia Day spotlights the specialty” and another release “New tool helps children to recover safely after surgery” about a joint Australian/US research project that has developed a new checklist to help children recover after surgery. The Australian arm of the study was led by ANZCA Councillor Associate Professor Paul Lee-Archer who recorded audio grabs about the project for news broadcasts across Australia.
These grabs have already been broadcast on more than 100 radio stations in metropolitan, rural and regional cities as diverse as Dubbo, Bundaberg, Bendigo, Bathurst, Brisbane, Albany, Bairnsdale, Darwin, Hobart, Lismore, Rockhampton, Wollongong, Toowoomba and Wauchope through radio release.
ABC Radio Brisbane’s Drive program host Ellen Fanning interviewed A/Prof Paul Lee-Archer on her program in a 10-minute segment this afternoon.
Social media
Engagement on social media was really strong this year thanks, in part, to having such great content. On National Anaesthesia Day alone, our Instagram content received 25,833 views and our Facebook page had 22,778 views. In addition to re-posting photos from participating hospitals, we also shared short video clips and quotes from our new community engagement campaign.
New community engagement campaign
A focus for this year's celebrations was the launch of a new community engagement campaign. Using the tagline You're in safe hands, the campaign aims to raise awareness around anaesthesia and anaesthetists by sharing your stories.
We got the ball rolling this year by asking current ANZCA councillors to talk to camera about what a day in the life of an anaesthetist involves; what they love most about their jobs; what they say and do to help patients relax; and what 'soft skills' make for a great anaesthetist.
But this is just the beginning. We'd really like to build on this campaign over the coming year, and involve as many members as possible. If you're interested in sharing your story, you can find out more here.
