Top sustainability grant for ANZCA fellow

Associate Professor Forbes McGain has been awarded the National Health and Medical Research Council's (NHMRC) first ever grant devoted to sustainable healthcare.
The $1 million grant for "Healthcare Environmental Sustainability: Creating the evidence to drive adoption of high value initiatives in Australian Hospitals" recognises Associate Professor McGain's leadership in driving sustainable healthcare initiatives.
An anaesthetist at Western Health in Melbourne Associate Professor McGain says the grant provides an opportunity "to research ways to improve patient care, improve health service efficiency and reduce financial and environmental waste."
"We can now begin the journey to a more financially and environmentally sustainable healthcare system," he explains.
"Research is vital to achieve this program of sustainability, particularly health services research.
"Once again, we thank the NHMRC for supporting this exciting grant opportunity."
