CPD review - update from the MBA

01 April 2022

The Medical Board of Australia (MBA)'s March newsletter provides updates on changes to continuing professional development.

The update in the MBA March newsletter builds on the July 2021 announcement of the approved revised MBA CPD registration standard effective from 1 January 2023.

The newsletter advises:

  • CPD changes begin 1 January 2023.
  • The Australian Medical Council (AMC) will work with specialist colleges to transition them from having accredited CPD programs to being accredited as a CPD home.
  • As is currently the case, specialists will be required to meet the requirements set by specialist colleges from 1 January 2023.
  • The AMC will progressively accredit CPD homes in 2022 and 2023, including non-college CPD homes.
  • Doctors who do not have a CPD home by 1 January 2023 will have until 1 January 2024 to join a CPD home.
  • Other than those who are exempt, all practitioners must participate in a CPD program of an approved CPD home from 1 January 2024.

Our CPD review project group (CPD-RPG) has been formed to review the current ANZCA and FPM CPD Program to align with the MBA revised CPD registration standard, as well as the Medical Council of New Zealand’s (MCNZ) recertification documents.

The CPD-RPG and the CPD Committee will continue to evaluate information from the regulators and contribute to the public consultation on CPD homes criteria in April 2022.

There are no confirmed changes to the CPD standard or portfolio at this time. We ask that all CPD participants continue to update their online CPD portfolio to ensure they are best prepared for when changes need to be made.

The CPD-RPG, CPD Committee and team are committed to clearly communicating these changes as they develop. For more information, see here. Please contact the CPD team if you have any queries.
