New pain education standards presented to the Council of Presidents of Medical Colleges
On Thursday 4 June, FPM Board member Dr Noam Winter presented the Australian Standards for Health Practitioner Pain Management Education at the June Council of Presidents of Medical Colleges (CPMC) meeting.
The standards received very positive feedback and provided an important opportunity to engage with specialist medical colleges across Australia and New Zealand about advancing high-quality pain management education.
The CPMC meeting comes nearly a year after the 2025 Pain Management Education Roundtable, where delegates from specialist medical colleges gathered at ANZCA House to provide constructive feedback on what was then a draft version of the standards. That feedback helped shape the final standards and highlighted the importance of working together across specialties to strengthen pain management education.
As a world-first initiative, the standards provide clear, evidence-based guidance for high-quality pain management education and training across all health disciplines and levels of education.
