Read Professor Anne Burke's perspective on how the Australian Standards for Health Practitioner Pain Management Education can be used.

"The Australian Standards for Health Practitioner Pain Management Education provide a compelling mechanism to drive quality pain management education and interdisciplinary collaborative care."

Professor Anne Burke
Lead, South Australian Chronic Pain Statewide Clinical Network

Pain is complex and people often require input from a range of health practitioners. While it is natural that clinicians from various disciplines feel more closely aligned to some aspects of the pain experience than others, working effectively in this space requires each of us to anchor our discipline lens within an interdisciplinary framework that acknowledges the complex array of factors that can influence the pain experience. Whether we work in a solo practice, a single discipline clinic or a large hospital based multi-disciplinary team, it is this broader understanding of pain and its management which underpins effective patient care, making these standards applicable to all health practitioners.
