Our strategic plan
The CTN Strategic Plan 2026–2029 sets out the network’s priorities for the next four years, with a focus on sustainability, engagement, research capability, emerging investigator development and delivering high-quality multicentre research that improves perioperative care.
Our purpose
Our purpose, as a college, is "to serve our communities by leading high quality care in anaesthesia, perioperative and pain medicine, optimising health and reducing the burden of pain". From this flow three major objectives:
- To promote professional standards and patient safety in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and pain medicine.
- To promote education in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and pain medicine.
- To advance the science and practice of anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and pain medicine.
Our vision
Our vision, as a college, is "to be a recognised world leader in training, education, research, and in setting standards for anaesthesia and pain medicine".
The ANZCA CTN has also developed its own vision, "to be the leading perioperative clinical trials network in the world, delivering transformative evidence that leads to improved patient outcomes, strengthens research capability and enhances research literacy across the specialty."
Our strategic priorities
To deliver our vision, the ANZCA CTN will focus on four strategic priorities from 2026–2029:
- Lead – World-class, impactful and innovative clinical trials
- Engage – A diverse, inclusive and nationally embedded research community
- Enable and influence – Strong governance, systems and institutional impact
- Sustain – Long-term financial and organisational resilience
