Avoid prescription of pregabalin during pregnancy

The TGA has updated its product safety information on pregabalin due to a recent study showing an increased risk of major congenital infant malformations linked with usage of the medicine during pregnancy.

The TGA informs medical practitioners to inform women about the potential risks to the unborn baby if used during pregnancy and advises that the drug should only be prescribed if the benefit to the patient substantially outweighs the risk to the foetus.
