TGA warns consumers of Ozempic pill scams

The TGA has released a warning cautioning consumers seeking semaglutide (Ozempic) during the current medicines’ shortage. The TGA urges has urged consumers to only obtain these products from Australian pharmacies and with a valid doctor’s prescription.

The TGA is presently investigating several websites claiming to sell Ozempic for type 2 diabetes treatment and weight loss purposes. Advertising prescription medicines such as Ozempic is prohibited under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 and many consumers purchasing through illicit suppliers have not received the semglutide, received another medicine or it may be harmful to their health.

The TGA warns of similar fraudulent advertisements for other weight loss medicines and are working with other regulators to take appropriate action against such advertising where possible. More information can be found on the TGA website here.
