Registrations are now open for the 2025 FPM Spring Meeting to be held in Fremantle, Western Australia from 24-26 October. The theme is “Treating the whole pain patient”.

Welcome

On behalf of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) Organising Committee of the 2025 FPM Spring Meeting, we invite you to join us from 24-26 October in Fremantle, Western Australia. The theme is “Treating the whole pain patient”.

The event will feature a wide range of topics and discussions, including updates on other specialties that will be beneficial to pain specialists. We hope to develop interdisciplinary collaboration and learning, and to promote the development of evidence-based pain management solutions with the aim of improving patient care. 

The meeting will reach beyond the core group of pain specialists and will bring together specialists from pain medicine, anaesthesia, general practice and allied health.

We look forward to welcoming you to Fremantle.

Venue

The Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges has a rich history dating back to 1850 the hotel is an iconic landmark in Western Australia. The iconic location means that guests can savour the culture and tradition of Fremantle one of WA’s premier tourist destinations. The hotel site has been established since 1850 and pays tribute to the rich history of the building, whilst incorporating references to Fremantle as an iconic port city.

Cost and registration

Registrations are now open. Click here to register. 

Non-members of ANZCA can register online too. Once you have completed your registration you will be provided with a college ID number and prompted for a password. This will allow you to register online for future meetings as well so please keep your college ID number. 

Your registration will include all refreshment breaks, the welcome reception and plenary sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Workshops and meeting dinner are at an additional cost.

All registration fees are quoted in Australian dollars and are inclusive of GST.

Workshops

SOT workshop 
The annual FPM supervisors of training (SOT) workshop will be held on Thursday 23 October at the Esplanade Fremantle from 1-4pm. This workshop is aimed at FPM Supervisors of Training and Practice Development Stage Supervisors. The workshop will include a module from the ANZCA Educators Program with specific pain medicine content. You can book in to attend this workshop when registering for the meeting.

Workshops held on Friday 24 October between 8.30am-1pm will include:

Acute Severe Behaviour Disturbance (ASBD)
Facilitators: Dr Tor Ercleve and Dr Benedict Tan
This 90-minute workshop will be run twice. It is an ANZCA/FPM CPD emergency response activity and will focus on assessment and management of acute severe behavioural disturbance, including interventions to de-escalate aggression and the safe care of patients who require sedation. This workshop is recognised by the ANZCA and FPM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program for “Emergency response – acute severe behavioural disturbance (ASBD)”.

Opioid induced ventilatory impairment (OIVI)
Facilitator: Professor Pam Macintyre 
This 120-minute workshop will be run twice. It is an ANZCA/FPM CPD emergency response activity and will focus on factors which may increase the risk of OIVI; discuss multiple cases, aiming to identify possible factors which might have increased the risk and ways to reduce risk; discuss changes that might be needed in an attendee’s institution to help them meet recent national standards including opioid prescribing and the development of ‘track and trigger’ systems aiming to improve detection and subsequent management of OIVI; and discuss patient and carer education, including after discharge. This workshop is recognised by the ANZCA and FPM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program for “Emergency response – opioid-induced ventilatory response (OIVI)”.

Continuing professional development (CPD)

Participants in the ANZCA and FPM CPD Program will automatically have their attendance auto-populated to their CPD portfolio within 14 days of the conclusion of the meeting.

ANZCA and FPM CPD Program
This event is claimable by ANZCA and FPM CPD participants within the practice evaluation, knowledge and skills, or emergency responses categories.

  • Category 2: Knowledge and skills
    Lectures/plenary sessions under ‘Learning sessions’.
    Workshops and small group discussions under ‘Short format learning’ activity.
  • Category 3: Emergency responses
    Where the workshop states that its satisfies an Emergency response CPD requirement, it has been recognised as suitable to be claimed as an emergency response activity, such as the CICO workshop.

If you're not a member of our CPD program
If you’re not participating in the ANZCA and FPM CPD program, please check with your respective college/provider regarding your CPD classifications. Post-event, you may request an electronic certificate of attendance for CPD evidence from the event organiser.
