SA ACE meeting "Novel fascia blocks - PENG & iPACK"

Join us for the SA ACE meeting in March for live ultrasound scan demonstrations on lower limb fascial blocks.

Guest Speakers

We welcome Dr Indy Lin and Dr Brigid Brown who will present “Novel fascia blocks of the lower limb - PENG and iPACK”.

The pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block is a novel regional analgesia technique of the hip. It may provide better pain reduction while preserving motor function in hip surgery. In 2018, Giron-Arango, et al. described the PENG block and included a small case series with their patients experiencing a NRS pain score reduction of 7 points (out of 10), as well as having a purely sensory blockade. It is a simple ultrasound guided procedure.
The iPACK block is a tissue plane block of the posterior aspect of the knee. The acronym iPACK stands for infiltration between the popliteal artery and capsule of the knee. Evidence suggests it can be combined with surgical LIA (local infiltration analgesia) to provide superior pain relief than LIA alone. This regional block is also motor sparing, and straightforward to learn and perform.

The evening will include live model ultrasound scan demonstrations, sponsored by FUJIFILM Sonosite.
