Nominations for this annual award recognising excellence in medical education close on 15 November 2026.

Overview

Some educators do more than teach. They inspire learners, shape training programs, mentor future specialists and influence how education is delivered across anaesthesia and pain medicine.

The Steuart Henderson Award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to medical education through teaching, mentorship, scholarship and educational leadership. It celebrates those whose work has strengthened learning, advanced educational practice and created lasting impact across the specialty.

Nominations are now open for the 2027 award. Nominations close 15 November 2026.

Who should be nominated?

Educational excellence takes many forms. You may know someone who has:

  • Demonstrated a sustained commitment to education in anaesthesia or pain medicine.
  • Inspired and supported trainees, fellows or colleagues through mentoring and coaching.
  • Led innovation in curriculum, assessment, simulation, or educational resources.
  • Contributed to educational scholarship and the advancement of learning practices.
  • Provided leadership that has strengthened specialist medical education within departments, hospitals, universities, colleges or professional organisations.
  • Improved learning experiences and elevated educational standards across the specialty.

How to nominate

Nominations require two nominators, including at least one ANZCA or FPM fellow.

Each nomination must include:

  • A completed nomination form. To obtain the form, please contact [email protected].
  • A cover letter outlining the rationale for nomination.
  • The nominee's curriculum vitae.

Nominations remain active for up to three years if the nominee is unsuccessful in the initial year.

Award recognition

The award includes:

  • A commemorative medal.
  • A certificate.
  • A A$1,000 grant for educational or research purposes.
  • Ticketed entry to the ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting.
