Model Standards for accreditation of training settings for ANZCA and FPM
We're pleased to announce the publication of the Model Standards for accreditation of training settings for anaesthesia and pain medicine.
From 2027, anaesthesia and pain medicine training settings will be accredited against the Model Standards for accreditation of training settings for ANZCA and FPM and AMC-approved college-specific requirements, which are incorporated in the published document.
The Model Standards form part of a broader national reform arising from the National Health Practitioner Ombudsman (NHPO) Processes for Progress report, which identified opportunities to improve the transparency, consistency, accountability and responsiveness of accreditation across all specialist medical colleges.
While the Model Standards introduce some changes, they also provide an opportunity to build on the strengths of our current approach, further enhancing training quality, supporting patient safety, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care into the future.
ANZCA and FPM welcome these changes and recognise the significant benefits for training settings.
