
The Alan & Kate Gibson Fellowship provides funding to support two clinicians to undertake the ANZCA Course in Perioperative Medicine and become a graduate of the Chapter of Perioperative Medicine (GChPOM).
Background
The Alan & Kate Gibson Fellowship aims to find emerging leaders in perioperative medicine and support specialist doctors committed to advancing the field. Two fellowships will be awarded for the 2026 academic year, with one specifically supporting a clinician working in a regional or rural setting.
What each fellowship provides
- Full course fee support covering the registration and completion fees for the ANZCA Perioperative Medicine Course ($A14,065).
- Co-ordinated access to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre for the clinical immersion component of the course.
- Up to $A3000 in reimbursable travel expenses for regional and interstate fellows attending the clinical immersion site (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre).
- An additional $A3000 administration fee for the clinical immersion site.
- Opportunities to connect with a network of past Alan & Kate Gibson fellows.
Who should apply?
Anaesthetists, surgeons, intensivists, physicians, and general practitioners with a strong interest in perioperative medicine and a commitment to improving patient outcomes.
How to apply
- Applicants must submit a completed POM Course Scholarship application form and supporting documents listed in the form.
- A written statement (maximum 500 words) demonstrating how they will use the knowledge gained through the POM course to enhance perioperative care at their hospital, in alignment with ANZCA Standards for Perioperative Medicine.
A report of 750-1000 words will be required prior to conferral of certification.

Selection process
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an online interview in October 2025. Final recipients must meet eligibility requirements for enrolment in the ANZCA Course in Perioperative Medicine commencing in trimester 1 February 2026.
