King's Birthday honours for fellows
Four ANZCA fellows have received Australian King's Birthday honours
Congratulations to the following FANZCAs for being awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM):
- Dr Andrew James Mulcahy, FANZCA, Tasmania. (For significant service to medical administration, and to anaesthetics.) Dr Mulcahy is a past president of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists.
- Associate Professor Michael Paul Steyn, FANZCA Queensland. (For significant service to anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine, and to health leadership.) A/Prof Steyn was awarded the ANZCA Medal in 2023. He is a former chair of the Specialist International Medical Graduate Committee, and founder and chair of the Overseas Trained Specialist Anaesthetists’ Network (OTSAN).
- Associate Professor David Austin, FANZCA, FCICM, New Zealand. (For significant service to intensive care medicine, to sport, and to education.) A/Prof Austin is a former director of intensive care services in Rockhampton and a past ANZCA examiner.
A Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division was awarded to:
- Dr Ross Duncan MacPherson, FANZCA, NSW. (For service to medicine as an anaesthetist.) Dr Duncan is a former ANZCA examiner and Chair of the Primary Exam Committee.
They join paediatric anaesthetist Dr Paul Baker who was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit earlier this month.
