Acknowledgements

Firstly, huge congratulations to ASM Convenor Dr Andy Potter and the Cairns Regional Organising Committee for delivering a truly unforgettable five-day program of world class science and social activities. The theme 'Futureproof' inspired delegates to take a deep dive into issues around the sustainability of our profession, the environment, and our own personal wellbeing. We also thank the wider team at Cairns Hospital for holding the fort and supporting the organising committee through two years of preparation. And the nearly 60 healthcare industry sponsors and exhibitors. And, of course, the ANZCA staff, who work hard behind the scenes to ensure the ANZCA ASM is always an outstanding event attracting delegates from around the globe.

Highlights

For the first time this year, we published a round-up of the highlights from each day of the conference, including the FPM Symposium and Workshop Day.

Media coverage

We issued eight media releases on a range of topics including childhood pain, birth trauma, Jedi anaesthetists, webAIRS, enhanced recovery and chatbots to help people living with chronic pain. More than 80 syndicated articles have been published reaching an audience of nearly five million people and FPM Dean Dr Dilip Kapur went into the ABC Cairns studio for a live 10-minute interview with the Queensland Northern Drive program. Professor Paul Myles was interviewed by the Herald Sun  for an exclusive page 3 (paywalled) article on 7 May about his research into nitrous oxide and depression.

The study findings were also reported by Nine News bulletins in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne  and 10 News in Sydney and Melbourne. The top rating radio Melbourne breakfast 3AW team interviewed Professor Myles about the research and radio news bulletins on 3AW, 2SM, Smooth FM, 2GB, 2HD (Newcastle), 2CC (Canberra) , 6PR, FIVEAA and Curtin FM also included news segments on the study with a total audience reach of more than two million people.

ANZCA President Professor Dave Story was also photographed outside the Cairns Hospital for a page one article in The Australian on 3 May about hospital workforce pressure. More detail here.

Social media

This is the first year we’ve used Bluesky to connect virtually throughout the ASM. It’s been great to see delegates engaging on the platform and sharing their highlights from the meeting. You can see it all here. In the past seven days our Instagram content has received nearly 63,000 views and more than 600 interactions (likes, shares, comments, saves) across posts and stories.

Our Facebook page content has had nearly 70,000 views and more than 700 interactions in the same timeframe. The College Ceremony livestream has had more than 4500 views on Facebook. In the past seven days our YouTube channel has clocked up more than 2160 views.
