A/Prof David Highton accepts the Chief Executive's Award at the 2025 MSH Staff Awards Gala

Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital’s Director of Anaesthesia, Associate Professor David Highton, has received the 2025 Metro South Health Chief Executive’s Award, one of the health service’s highest honours.

An anaesthetist, researcher, academic and Deputy Chair of the ANZCA Clinical Trials Network Executive, Associate Professor Highton has driven significant advances in perioperative care, research and education across Metro South. Trained in neuroanaesthesia and intensive care in London, with a PhD in brain monitoring, he joined PA Hospital in 2017 and was appointed director in 2022.

He is recognised not only for his clinical leadership but also for his commitment to developing future doctors and strengthening research capability across the Metro South network, including support for regional services in Redland and Rockhampton.

The ANZCA Clinical Trials Network congratulates Associate Professor Highton on this outstanding achievement and his continued contribution to excellence in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.
