ANZCA Medal

The ANZCA Medal recognises major contributions by fellows to the status of anaesthesia, intensive care, pain medicine or related specialties.

The award was established in 1979 by the Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Selection criteria

The sole criterion for this award is a major contribution by a fellow to the status of anaesthesia, intensive care, pain medicine or related specialties.

A “major contribution” by a fellow is defined as distinguishing themselves in a manner that rendered their contribution conspicuous among their peers. They must be recognised at national and regional levels.

Eligibility for this award is limited to current and retired fellows of the college.

Nominations process

The nomination period for this award will open each year in late September and close on November 30.

Following review by the Awards Advisory Panel, a new and transparent nominations process has been established.

Nominations may be made by three fellows of the college and be completed using the online nomination form with a supporting nomination letter and a curriculum vitae of the nominee provided. Nominations will be marked as private and confidential.

Following adjudication and review by the Awards Advisory Panel, nominees will be presented to Council for approval. Recipients will be notified by phone within seven days of the Council meeting. The award will be presented at the upcoming College Ceremony as part of the Annual Scientific Meeting in May the following year. See Regulation 43 for full details.
